Chris Hartley

Professional Background

I have worked in Education all my working life. I started working as a Primary School Teacher in Buxton in 1976 before working in Schools on South Normanton and Belper. I was appointed to my first Headteacher post in 1988 before settling for over 20 years at a School in Alfreton. I retired from a job i really enjoyed in 2012 for no other reason than it was time for a change. Cricket then became more of my life.

Why did you become a Trustee?

I became a Director of the DCB over 5 years ago to lead at Director level on Junior Cricket. The DCB has developed over those years and I became Chair 3 years ago. Over this period I have seen hugely positive developments in the DCB and Cricket Derbyshire as a whole. In recent months I have overseen the merge of the CDF with the DCB to create the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation. I have always believed this was the way forward for the two organisations and am now proud to be a Trustee and Chair of the DCF.

How do you believe that you can help the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation to achieve its aims and objectives?

  • I have been involved for many years in Cricket at a club level in a variety of roles
  • I have been involved in the Foundation as well as the DCB
  • I love the game of Cricket, it’s been part of my life from being very young.
  • I have worked in schools for all my working life so have an understanding of how they work and their underlying pressures.
  • I have seen the developments around the new ECB Stategy Inspiring Generations in recent months.
  • I believe I have a really broad insight into the workings of the Recreational game, whether in Clubs or Schools
  • I can continue to support the Staff in taking our support of the current developments forward as strongly as I have done in recent times as well as providing the necessary challenge.
