Derbyshire U13 Girls were on the road again when they visited Shepshed Cricket Club to take on local rivals Leicestershire in two T20’s on Tuesday 14th June.
First Game
Derbyshire, batting first posted a useful 145 for 7 from their 20 overs, notable contributions from Amelie Clarkson with 39 from 24 balls before she was out having hit her own wicket and Emily Walne with a good 37 not out.
Leicestershire were always behind the asking rate with some tight bowling from the Derbyshire Girls and with wickets falling regularly they were all out for 116. The stand-out bowler for Derbyshire, with a magnificent display of left-arm seam bowling, was Grace Wolfenden taking 6 wickets for 12 runs from her 3.3 overs.
Second Game
Leicestershire batted first in the second game and despite a 20-run opening partnership saw wickets fall at regular intervals before they were all out for 42. Another encouraging bowling display from Derbyshire with 2 wickets each for Emily Ford, Georgia Simpson and Grace Wolfenden, Grace finishing with figures of 8 for 15 on the day.
Derbyshire probably lost a bit of concentration chasing a low score and indeed lost 4 wickets before going past the Leicestershire total in the 10th over.
A good day all round for Derbyshire and one that Grace will certainly remember.
Well done girls.
