Disability cricket has continued to grow within Derbyshire and we hope that this continues to grow while we work closely with the Lord Taverners.
Table Cricket
Since October we have been into 15 schools to provide SEND cricket and have more schools booked in after Christmas. The offer is for Table cricket as well as softball skills. We currently have two table cricket competitions booked for the new year at the Derbyshire County Cricket Club on the 9th and 16th February. We are looking to host another in the Chesterfield area in March.
Super 1’s
Super 1’s has now come to Derbyshire, in partnership with the Lord Taverners! This amazing programme provides an opportunity for 12–25-year-olds with disabilities to play regular and competitive cricket. This is also a place to learn and develop new life skills as well as making new friends.
We have a Super 1’s hub at Alfreton Leisure Centre on a Friday evening, 4pm – 5pm and it is for 12–25 year-olds. It is a great place for players to build on their cricket skills but also to develop their personal skills. We are looking to set up another hub in Derby and South Derbyshire in the new year.
ECB Champion Clubs
The Disability Champion Club is designed to help clubs provide the space and time for members of their community with different needs to enjoy the game within a safe and welcoming environment. We currently have 6 Champion Clubs within Derbyshire and are hoping to increase this over the next year. You can hear from Mike and Duncan at Swanwick Hall CC about their Champion Club experiences this past year HERE.
Derbyshire Disabled CC
The Derbyshire disabled teams are all really looking forward to the 2023 season! Their winter training will be starting at Derbyshire County Cricket Club on some Tuesday Evenings, starting in January. The DCF will be working closely with the club to support them as much as possible.
They will be playing in the D40 National competition, whilst also having Super 9’s Incrediball teams playing in the ECB Competitions too. They would love to see any new players that would like to get involved, as well as any coaches who would be interested in coaching Disability Cricket.
