The DCF ran 3 Women’s Softball Indoor Leagues in winter 2022/23 for 19 different clubs/teams!
Two of these ran out of Willows Sports centre again, who not only run an outstanding indoor cricket facility but have also been fantastic hosts for DCF and the women’s teams involved. It’s extremely busy for many different sports down at the centre but DCF are very pleased we have been able to continue our partnership with them again!
The league in the autumn had 12 teams, 2 groups of 6 and the league in Jan/Feb had 9 different teams, across 2 groups of 4/5. Teams played each other twice, meaning 8-10 matches per team. Each league took place over 4 weeks on Sunday afternoons with play off’s on week 5. The format is similar to traditional indoor cricket but with less overs in order to get more games in a shorter period of time.
The 1st of the Willows leagues started on the 16th of October and ran until the 27th of November. It featured teams from Eastwood Town, Belper Meadows, Marehay, Alvaston & Boulton, Swarkestone, Aston Village, Swanwick, Hilton, Matlock & Cromford Meadows, Sandiacre Town, Belper Amateurs and Long Eaton! This included 7 brand new teams! Belper Amateurs won this league winning 9 out of their 10 group games, they then comfortably progressed through the Semi-Finals and went on to win the final!
The 2nd of the Willows leagues had teams from Belper Meadows, Belper Amateurs, Marehay, Ilkeston Rutland, Sandiacre, Eastwood, Alfreton, Swanwick Hall, Chellaston. Belper Amateurs went on to win this league too! With a closely fought game against Sandiacre!
Our 3rd league was held at the brand new indoor cricket centre in North Derbyshire called S20 The Boundary. This state-of-the-art cricket facility provided us with an ideal venue to trial a Women’s Indoor league in the north of the county. We had 4 teams (Holmesfield, Langley Mill, Clowne Town and Eckington) play over 4 weeks and Holmesfield CC were the eventual winners. It was great to see some of our more northern based clubs be involved in Women’s indoor activity.
Congratulations to Belper Amateurs CC and Holmesfield CC! As well as all of the teams involved! We hope you all enjoyed it!
