Derbyshire Women Crowned National T20 Winners 2024!

Derbyshire Women were crowned winners of the ECB Women’s County Championship T20 trophy, after defeating three other counties in Finals Day at Neston CC.

After a very successful group stage, where Derbyshire won six of their seven group games, the side qualified for Finals Weekend at Neston CC on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th August.

The weekend saw the 4 winners of the group stages (Derbyshire, Hampshire, Warwickshire, and Hertfordshire) compete in a round-robin competition, where Derbyshire finished unbeaten after 3 fixtures.

Derbyshire’s wicket-keeper batter, Megan Pittman, finished as top run scorer with 104 which included a half-century in the deciding game. Captain Adrianna Darlow took 7 wickets across the 2 days.

Across the whole competition, there were some stand-out performances from a number of players. Lara Shaw hit the only century in group one against Cumbria and finished as the leading run-scorer of the group with 251 runs. In the bowling department, Emma Thatcher finished as highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in the group and an impressive 4 for 11 against Lancashire. Maria Andrews took 12 wickets in the group stages, with a best of 3 for 15 against the North East Warriors.

Head Coach, Jon Dyson said:

“This was an outstanding achievement for both the players and the coaching team involved behind the scenes. We had driven a real culture change during the past 12 months and have started to reap the benefits of players exhibiting resilience, clarity of task and performing their skills under pressure in big moments.”

“Our focus during the competition was around individuals playing within the parameters of each game in order to help make the right decision at the right time to remain as effective as they could. We saw pivotal moments during certain games where clear decision making was the difference between success and failure. The players responded extremely well to the extra demands placed on them in what is still a developing side, of course we know we can improve even further in certain areas so we’ll let them enjoy their deserved success for a short while before we go again and begin our planning for the new domestic structure as a Tier 2 County side next year”
