February half-term saw the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) host a multi-programme collaborative festival, bringing together participants from Chance to Shine Street, Lord’s Taverners Wicketz, and Super 1s programs.
Held at Willows Sports Centre in Derby, the event welcomed 30+ players, split into five teams for an exciting Street Cricket Competition. The day was packed with action, friendship, and special guests, as Derbyshire Fire Service and St John Ambulance delivered workshops and showcased their emergency vehicles—firefighters even joined in for a game!
DCF Staff Pete Boot, Mitchell Adlington and Bella Hopcraft hailed the festival as a huge success, praising the participants said:
“What a brilliant festival! We are all so pleased with how we have been able to combine participants from three of our programmes through such a fulfilling event. Being able to develop valuable life skills workshops added variety to the day and provided an opportunity to meet members of other programmes that we deliver”.
Hannah McMaster, a Wicketz coach, added:
“What a great day celebrating cricket throughout Derbyshire. It was nice to see the kids come together with their shared love of cricket and prove that it is a game for everyone.”
Mark Curtin, CEO of the Lord’s Taverners, said:
“The day was inclusive, fun, engaging and full of young people learning and developing throughout the day. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the excellent cricket activities and the other enriching experiences that the participants enjoyed and benefitted from on the day. A massive well done to all of the team from our partners at Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, a brilliant day!”
Thanks to the overwhelming success and support from Chance to Shine and Lord’s Taverners, the festival will return next year—bigger and better!
