Grassroots Heroes: Alfie Northage and Dave Whitehouse

There were some excellent nominations for our Grassroots Heroes of 2020, and we are going to highlight as many people as we can over the next month. Our next Grassroots Heroes are Alfie Northage from Denby CC and Dave Whitehouse from Whitwell CC.

Alfie Northage

Alfie is a young player who currently plays in the 3rd team at Denby CC however this is not all he does. He supports the running of the Allstar sessions, he helps prepare the pitches for the weekend games, he supports with many of the maintenance jobs around the club. In addition to the above, he supports the running of the bar throughout the season, as well as sorting out the takeaway order on a Saturday night at the club!

When asked about his nomination for Grassroots Hero, Alfie Said:

“I started out helping with Kwik Cricket and it grew from there. I enjoy helping out and being a part of the Denby family, the ground has become my second home. It’s great to be nominated as a grassroots hero, thank you for the nomination.”

Alfie is a genuinely all-round lovely young man, with a heart of gold!

Dave Whitehouse

Dave is the Whitwell CC Club Secretary and 2nd XI vice-captain. He produces a weekly club newsletter throughout the season which brings much delight to our supporters near and far.

Dave said:

“I picked up the newsletter for the 2017 season and produced one for each week throughout the season. I try and keep it light hearted, while keeping all our members up to date on social media posts, current stats, match reports, team news, etc… to name a few.”

He also produces a magnificent annual fixture booklet/review keeping up tradition going back to the second World War.

We will be highlighting some more inspiring individuals throughout the month so keep an eye out for them!
