Back in December, The Conquerors, Derby-based Last Man Stands team reached the World Championships held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Last Man Stands (LMS) is an 8-a-side, T20 cricket game for all abilities played at cricket grounds around the world. LMS is known for its distinctive coloured kits, fast-paced gameplay, and innovative rule changes.
LMS has been running since 2005 and the Derby League has been run since 2017 by Maz Hussain. Last year, alongside the normal league which had 10 teams, a new Super league took place. This involved a draft of local players to establish six premium teams and encourage maximum competition among the players.

“My vision was to have one of the Super League teams go as far as they could in (and hopefully win) the Nationals. The season was fantastic and saw some of the best cricket locally and at times there were breathtaking games which went to the wire.”
The league was a huge success, which saw Super League and Regional winners, The Conquerors, dominate and become England National Champions!
Becoming National Champions meant one thing, they were now on their way to the World Championships taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.

“They had a steady start, acclimatising and getting used to the local wickets. However, once on form, they showed their class and beat the world’s no.1 ranked team in a classic semi-final, finishing up as runners up. It is fair to say the vision of the Super League exceeded all my expectations and leaves a mouth-watering prospect for the 2024 season when I expect it to get stronger. I’d love for one of these teams to go all the way to become LMS World Champs!!”
This year, the Super League will be tougher than before and teams have already confirmed, and the normal Derby League is filling up fast.
The winning team of the Nationals will be going to Sunny Australia for the World Championships!
