There were some excellent nominations for our Grassroots Heroes of 2020, and we are going to highlight as many people as we can over the next month. First up we have Tom Rooke from Alfreton CC and Anthony Bolsover from Holmesfield CC.
Tom Rooke
Tom is a huge part of the day to day running of Alfreton Cricket Club. Not only is he a player, but he is also Head of Junior Cricket, Treasurer, and is described as a top clubman. Through his hard work and commitment, Alfreton CC has become one of the most active clubs in Derbyshire in terms of youth cricket.
In a tough year for cricket, he has been pivotal to not only club operations but those of the Amber Valley District Youth League where he is Chairman.
Tom’s devotion to both Alfreton CC and cricket as a whole within Derbyshire over the past 35 years has been incredible, and deserves to be celebrated!
Keep up the great work Tom!
Anthony Bolsover
Anthony single-handedly organised cricket training for juniors players at Holmesfield CC within 24 hours of the government giving the ECB the green light to start after the first lockdown. He organised a coach, 4 sessions each night with 5 players in each group for 4 nights a week until matches could be played. Not only did he orgainse the training, but he was also at the ground during every session to make sure that the strict guidelines were being followed by those who attended.
Once matches were allowed to be played, he made sure that 30 U13 players all had enough opportunities in a very difficult and shortened season,. Anthony played a massive part in making sure that the club was Covid safe and sticking to all the guidelines throughout the summer. Without him taking on this responsibility, Juniors at the club would not have had anywhere near the amount of cricket that they did.
Well done Anthony, great work this year!
