The Derbyshire Junior League is launching in 2025 to help provide young cricketers with more opportunities to play cricket through league games and representative opportunities.
The single league structure will have the flexibility and scale to support a comprehensive competitive playing offer, including county competitions, demand for different formats, such as indoor cricket, and provides a platform for local representative cricket that can complement the County Age Group Talent Pathway.
A combination of 4 legacy junior leagues, the new league will provide opportunities for over 70 clubs and 250 teams across age groups from U9’s-U19’s and will include the U13’s and U15’s National T20 Cups.
Tom Coxhead, Club and Community Cricket Officer at the DCF said:
‘I want to thank all individuals at the legacy leagues who have done an excellent job of provided opportunities for young cricketers over numerous years. We hope that the new offer will build on the work of these legacy leagues to help grow junior participation in the county’.
The league will also look to build on the high number of girls participants in All Stars and Dynamos cricket in the county by providing more dedicated options for girls only cricket with offers at U11’s, U12’s, U14’s and U16’s on a dedicated night of the week separated from other league offers.
The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) will assist the league in applying best-practice, whilst reducing volunteer workload, by providing support which will include:
- Providing the league Safeguarding Officer
- Case management of disciplinary matters – including compliance with the ECB General Conduct Regulations and Anti-Discrimination Code.
- Financial Administrative support
- Social Media & Marketing
- Support with the transition to the new league and Management Committee Structure.
- Ongoing support for the Management Committee.
The new volunteer management committee has been appointed at the recent AGM to oversee the administration of the league and remove the burden from single individuals, as was common practise in the legacy leagues. Age group co ordinators will become the focal point of communication for each age group to also take the burden off one individual in the league.
